Although there is a huge variety of ways to interact with the community at Fort Lewis college, I have recently discovered a way to get involved through this club called Rotaract; which is by far the most hard working and interesting club in Durango. After attending the meeting I realized that there are soo many people in this town that really care about building leaders, recognizing, practicing, and promoting ethical standards such as leadership qualities and vocational responsibilities, while developing professional and leadership skills. They focus on the needs and opportunities of local and even global communities. Also, the Rotaract club learns more about other cultures by preforming at least one international service project each year. This club is a way to learn more about the needs of a city this size and really make a difference. Rotaract is a great opportunity and a great reference. I highly suggest becoming a member of this club. It meets every Thursday at 5:30pm at the Durango recreational center. In addition, the first volunteer opportunity is to work for two hours at the Liberty School helping dyslexic kids read. Also, the next opportunity coming up is helping out at the Manna Soup Kitchen.

If anyone is interested in signing up before the next meeting, contact Kate (
